Zentangle Challenge #35 “Tile On Tile”

This weeks challenge is brought to us by zentangle teacher, Margaret Bremner.  Margaret has challenged us to do a tile within a tile.  Since I liked last weeks challenge so much, I decided to do an “opposites attract” tile within a tile.  My curves are in the smaller tile in front of the straight line tangles:

Mostly Metal Challenge Reveal & Blog Hop!

Today is the reveal of the “Mostly Metal” Challenge hosted by Michelle Mach of Beads And Books.  Michelle is a jewelry designer and writer, and hosts several challengs throughout the year.  I was fortunate enough to grab a kit for the challenge,  and my category was “Gunmetal Love”.  It was indeed a challenge for me since I rarely use gunmetal.  Here is the kit that was sent to me:

Since I couldn’t think of what to make incorporating everything, I chose to make several pieces:

It’s amazing how we retain things we learned in childhood – I made the red cords into a keychain by using the macrame techniques that I learned long long ago.  I also used hematite beads to make heart earrings.  The swarovski crystals were made into dangle earrings, and the red ribbon roses (unique to my kit) were made into a hair barette.  Now, I just loved the pink pearlized vintage glass cabochon, so I got some Vintaj brass components and made it into a necklace:

And here is the list of participating artists to visit:

Oh, Michelle is hosting a giveaway to those who leave comments at her blog as well as all the other participating artist blogs.

An Outing to LA & LMU

We decided to go to LA and visit our older son in his new apartment.  Before that, we took a walk through his campus at Loyola Marymount University.  I think LMU has one of the prettiest campuses around.  Since it’s situated near the Marina, the air was cool and fresh:

Afterwards, we went to his apartment.  We met his very nice girlfriend :-), and went for lunch at a local Japanese restaurant.  A very nice day!

Updating Vintage Finds

I found these pretty vintage earrings sometime ago,  and finally decided to update them for wear.  I replaced the old clip-ons with gold and silver ear wires, added crystals and beads where needed. Aren’t they nice!:

Summertime Blast Challenge & Freebie

I recently participated in a Blog Train Challenge, Summertime Blast at DigiSisters. We were to download all the mini kits from the Blog Train and use at least one element from each kit and come up with a layout of our own.  We were also allowed to share, so here is my layout:

Bird A Week Challenge: Week 32/52

Drawing Lab 2011: Student’s Choice #6

For this weeks student’s choice, I did another portrait.  I am trying to challenge myself since I am not too keen on portraits.  This time, I drew Vincent Van Gogh:

Zentangle Challenge #34 “Opposites Attract”

Guest Zentangle instructor Christina, is back with another challenge.  This week she gave us the option of starting with lines and filling in with curves, or starting with curves and filling in with lines.  I chose the first option:This was a fun challenge. If time permits, I think I will do the other option this week.

August Garden 2011

It has been hot around here, but I really cannot complain considering the triple digit temperatures the rest of the country is suffering.  My garden is flourishing without much assistance. My mode of gardening seems to be plant, water, and you’re on your own – only the hardy survive.  And the tomatoes are hardy:

I planted four different varieties.  Homegrown tomatoes are the best!
