Drawing Lab 2011: Christmas Tree

This is finally the last Drawing Lab assignment, to draw a Christmas Tree.  I wanted to draw our very own Christmas Tree, but as is usually the case, life gets in the way.  With both boys home, and the hectic holiday season, I decided to draw Charlie Brown’s Christmas Tree. I like it for it’s simplicity and meaning:

Merry Christmas Everyone! And God Bless!

Well, I thought this was our last drawing lab.  There is one more, and our official last lab was to be the traveling journal.  Well, I got it, and sent it on to the next student in Germany, and it got lost – on my watch…  Maybe one day, it will reach her.  So, for my second to the “last” lab, I drew a partridge and a pear tree:

Drawing Lab 2011: Textures

This week, we were assigned to draw using different textures.  I drew a bowl of flowers with fabric underneath.  I’m not sure I got any specific textures – with my lack of skill, everything seems to be the same texture 🙂 :

I decided to work with pastels again this week. Not sure I like the medium – a bit too messy for me.  Anyway, I attempted a Pablo Picasso style self portrait. Not sure I achieved it, but here it is:

Drawing Lab 2011: Pastels

This has been a very busy week, with Thanksgiving , and the boys coming home.  This week, we were assigned to do a drawing in pastels.  I chose the easiest subject for me to draw – oranges, yes again oranges…

Not my best efforts so far. Oh well, next time…

For this week’s student’s choice, I did the Botanicals assignment. I drew a branch from our valencia tree. The colors are more vivid on the actual drawing:

Drawing Lab 2011: One Eyed Monster

This week, our instructor assigned us to draw a one eyed monster.  I didn’t have anything in mind, so I started with one eye and drew from there. What is unpleasant and scary? green skin, yellow claws, jagged teeth, blood shot eye, purple warts with hair, spiky tail, bulbous form, etc. And this is what evolved:

For this week’s Student’s Choice, I decided to do the “Your Flag” assignment. I kind of messed up the original assignment by creating a digital collage.  This is a drawing class after all, and our instructor wants us to “draw” :-).  I came across an intriguing photo of a Muslim woman with a traditional scarf and a face painted with the American Flag.  I call it “Tolerance”:

Drawing Lab 2011: Landscape

This week’s assignment was to draw a landscape.  I decided to post the chalk drawings that I did  of our local orange groves with the badlands as backdrop:

For this weeks student’s choice, I decided to do the Scribble Drawing:

If you can’t tell, it’s a silver wolf.

Drawing Lab 2011: Lettering

This weeks assignment was to draw disguised alphabets.  For some reason, I had some difficulty doing this:

If you can’t tell, it spells out the word “PEACE”, and it is garden themed.

I decided to do an insect again this week.  I drew a Monarch Butterfly.  We live in their path of migration.  It’s an amazing thing to see these beautiful butterflies:
