January Garden And Update

It seems unimaginable that the rest of the country is having such severe weather.  Here, it’s like spring/summer.  For this months garden post, I took a few shots of my front yard and spliced them together.  My gardener is helping with a lot of yard clean up.  Today, I went to several nurseries to find some plants – more on that later.

I also went to my very first Quilt Show, Road To California, which took place in the city of Ontario, not too far from my house.  It was an amazing experience! The crowd got to me a bit, but I found some really nice things.  I took dear hubby on another day to see my latest madness passion.  I also wanted him to see the long arm machines – planting the seed for possible future purchase… He actually found the machines, especially the computerized ones fascinating, the quilts, not so much.

I also met a very nice woman demonstrating one of the long arm machines who turned out to be an author of quilt books.  Dear hubby bought me two of her books, and she even signed them for me!

And finally, I had to add this photo – only at a Quilting Convention, attended by mostly older women.  All the men’s bathrooms converted temporarily into women’s bathrooms 🙂

Happy Birthday Nona!

Today is my dear mother-in-law’s 90th birthday.  Happy Birthday mama! I hope you have a wonderful day! Thank you for raising such an amazing son, whom I am lucky to be married to 🙂

Wrapping Up The Holidays And Moving Forth

The best part of the holidays were and will always be the gathering of loved ones.  Dear older son flew back to Arizona yesterday, and younger two return to University today.  Here is a photo of the kids taken at my parents house, playfully shoving each other – always hard to get a good photo of them together.  When I bring out the camera, it’s almost a cue for them to make faces and act silly, especially the boys:

Some quick lampwork bead jewelry – a commission from my sister:

And to plant some pink buttercups.  On a cycling ride up to Oak Glen, dear daughter saw these and thought I would enjoy them – so thoughtful!

Now on to tackle all the things I have planned for the year!

Happy New Year 2014!

Wishing you all a very Happy New Year!!!

Long Arm Quilting Class & Baby Quilt

Dear Hubby gifted me with a Long Arm Quilting Class.  It was fun, exhausting, and a bit frustrating all at the same time.  As usual, my current skills and where I want to be are not aligned.  It was fun, because it was all new to me.  Exhausting, because there was so much information to take in all at once, and frustrating, because I wanted to free motion instead of following a pantograph.  All in all, a very good experience.

I was asked to have a small quilt ready, no larger than 40″ x 40″.  So, I opted to do a baby quilt.  I love novelty children’s fabrics, so I pulled out some Pirate fabric, some coordinating scraps, and made a baby Pirate quilt.  As I don’t have a baby in my life currently, I think I will put it aside for future grandchildren 🙂

And, when it came down to it, I really liked it, so I signed up to rent the Long Arm for three days (they had a buy two get the third rental free).  Dear Hubby said it’s a gift that keeps on giving 🙂

My Mother’s Quilt

I have finally finished and given the quilt to my mother.  I love how it turned out.  It was fun to make (no constraints of a pattern), and I picked out my favorite colors.  And mom loved it!

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!

Just a quick post to wish everyone a wonderful holiday season!

December Garden & Update

December in Southern California has so far been gorgeous!  The air is fresh and crisp with the sun shining upon us.  Satsuma mandarins are coming into season, as well as Meyer lemons. Just in time to make lemon squares – yummy! And the leaves have fallen from the persimmon tree, showcasing the pretty orange fruits.

As hectic as the season is, I have been busy with one or other of my quilting projects.  Here is another quilt requiring hand applique/embroidery.  Cowboys and horses on a red/white/blue background:

How Lovely Are Your Branches…

Yayyy! I finally got my aluminum Christmas tree up!  I mentioned earlier that I had been on the lookout, and finally found one.  Well, here it is, with a color wheel too.  I set it up in the bonus room, where the kids hang out when they come home.  It so reminds me of my childhood…

Worldwide Christmas Scrapbooking Freebie 2013

I am once again participating in the Worldwide Christmas Scrapbooking Freebies blog hop.  These graphics are from the same cute vintage children’s activity book I used to make last years kit.  I love Nativity Scenes – isn’t this one just wonderful!  It’s been quite a while since I did any digital graphics/scrapbooking, so it was a lot of fun. I scanned and extracted some elements, added some CU items, and this is what I came up with.  For more free kits, click on the Worldwide Christmas Scrapbooking icon. Please note that this is for personal use only – Enjoy!

Happy Thanksgiving

Earlier this month, dear daughter was involved in a cycling crash and airlifted to the hospital…  She has recovered quite well with the addition of a few battle scars.

On this day and everyday, I am thankful to God for my family, friends, community, and Country.  Have a safe & Happy Thanksgiving!

November Garden & Update

November is already half over, and this is my first post of the month.  I want to make sure to post my garden, and some updates.  I have two tiny persimmon trees, and they have generously produced some fruits.  I love persimmons, as I grew up with them, and they also have the vibrant orange color I associate with fall – so pretty!

And, I finally got a new sewing machine! Love love love my new Janome:

Here is a pillow that I made. A few of my quilty friends have been making them.  You cut out flowers and leaves from printed fabrics, lay them out, sew them on using free motion, and voila! – a pretty decorative pillow.  This method is really good for practicing free motion – very forgiving:

And, more fabric to play with 🙂 :
