Bird A Week Challenge: Week 23/52

I came across this nice metal plate and decided to make a magnet for this weeks challenge:

I used a very nice vintage bird print and rhinestones, glued them on and voila! A very nice kitchen magnet.  My daughter thinks I should have made it into a necklace.  Maybe next week…

Bird A Week Challenge: Week 22/52

I saw these cute bird motifs in the scrapbook section of our local craft shop, and figured they would come in handy some time.  Well, I used it for this weeks challenge, and made Pinkie a birdie bonnett:

Bird A Week Challenge: Week 21/52

Well, here is another owl this week. Like I said, they are everywhere.  I found a really cute tutorial some time ago at Indie Fixx and decided to finally make it:

The pattern is very simple and easy to make up.  I  used some fabric from my Blythe doll dress stash, and the buttons from my big button bin.  I think these buttons are left over from an outfit I sewed back in the 80’s.   And I thought he looked really cute with the Eiffel tower backdrop :-).

What’s old is new again.  Everytime I go shopping with my daughter, I see an owl accessory.  As I recall, they were “in” back in the ’60s – ’70’s?

I made an owl pendant out of paper clay.  The eyes are vintage rhinestones.

Bird A Week Challenge: Week 19/52

This is what I put in the birdie trinket box I made for my mother last week:

I made the little birds from paper clay – I still have quite a bit left over from the Izannah Walker doll (I am making progress).  The earrings have pressed glass flowers and fresh water pearl dangles, and are finished off with sterling crowns and swarovski crystals.

I wanted to make something special for my dear mother on Mother’s Day:

It’s a trinket box embellished with rhinestones, a vintage bird & floral decoupage.  The bird graphic is from Free Pretty Things For You.  I will make a small special something to go in the box :-).

Bird A Week Challenge: Week 17/52

Oh my, only week 17 of 52!  I really am running out of ideas right now.  I started off doing one thing, and it didnt work, so I cropped, stamped, colored, poked a hole, and hung a bead.  And , “voila” a birdie bookmark:

I made an Easter dress for my Blythe doll Hana with little chicks on them:

I also made Easter dresses for Lily and Freddie too:

And here they are on the fig tree:

Bird A Week Challenge: Week 15/52

I am always on the look out for new birdie ideas.  After all, we are only on week 15 of 52.  Lampwork beads are one of my current passions, but there is only so many I can do before my mind is off and running in another direction.  With this said, I came across an artist who makes the most wonderful and whimsical animal cuties  – Myko Bocek of Myko Bocek Studios.   And here is my bird of the week:

My daughter happened to have some white yarn so I went from there.   I figured chicken chicks are yellow, so I ended up making more of a duck bill.  Then I was too lazy to make legs, so I sat her on some flower petals I had from another project.  And “voila”, a cute generic birdie chick :-).

And here are some of Myko’s wonderful creations. Check out her Etsy Store for more:

Bird A Week Challenge: Week 14/52

As you can see, I have been on a zentangle kick.  So, what better to do my bird a week on – but a zentangle peacock!

When I have caught up with my zentangle challenge, I will only post a zentangle once a week :-).

Bird A Week Challenge: Week 13/52

I made another lampwork bird bead this week.  It’s supposed to be a little yellow bird, but it turned out to look more like a fish with stick legs:

I feel a bit in the doldrums in terms of birds, I will have to get a bit more creative for the coming weeks.  Any ideas?

Bird A Week Challenge: Week 12/52

I have not had much mobility to be too creative earlier this week, short of sitting in front of the computer or sitting and drawing.  I dedicated this weeks challenge to “Two Injured Birds”.  My daughter had knee surgery, and on the same day, I stepped in a pothole, took a very “graceful” dive and ended up at urgent care with a badly sprained ankle.  I remember the days when my boys were young, when one got a boo boo, the other had to get a bandaid as well.  So, now, I am hobbling around on crutches (my “bandaid”)  alongside my daughter on her crutches :-(.

Her injury was a respectable sports related one. Mine, well… we all have our “klutz” moments :-).
