More Traditional Croatian Jewelry

I have not been very creative in my jewelry arts lately, so I thought I would share some more Croatian jewelry. DH just came back from a business trip to the Netherlands, and stopped by Croatia to visit his family. Here are two very beautiful pendants he brought back for my daughter and I. The one on the left is a pendant depiticting the coat of arms of Zagreb. It is also the design on the flag of Zagreb. The one on the right is a Morcic pendant – one of my favorite types of jewelry. Morcic jewelry have been worn traditionally as an amulet to ward off evil:

Drawing Lab 2011: One Eyed Monster

This week, our instructor assigned us to draw a one eyed monster. I didn’t have anything in mind, so I started with one eye and drew from there. What is unpleasant and scary? green skin, yellow claws, jagged teeth, blood shot eye, purple warts with hair, spiky tail, bulbous form, etc. And this is what evolved:

For this week’s Student’s Choice, I decided to do the “Your Flag” assignment. I kind of messed up the original assignment by creating a digital collage. This is a drawing class after all, and our instructor wants us to “draw” :-). I came across an intriguing photo of a Muslim woman with a traditional scarf and a face painted with the American Flag. I call it “Tolerance”:

Playing With Textures & Overlays

Well, my efforts and progress (or lack thereof) in learning how to use my new SLR camera have been slower than I could ever have imagined. Thank goodness for the “guide” mode – at least for now. As usual, my mind is racing in all different directions, and I haven’t made time to just sit and learn. For the time being, I have been having fun “enhancing” the photos I do take with different textures and overlays. There are a lot of freebies out there, these communities are so generous. I also came across a very talented photographer, Chasing Dreams. I purchased the Mishmosh textures set, and played with them. Here are some examples:
